Famous People and Celebrities of Lawrence, Indiana
Lawrence, Indiana, though a moderately sized suburb of Indiana state capital Indianapolis, doesn’t really have any celebrities or famous people that were born there. Though the population hovers at around 40,000, more than many other cities in Indiana, this home of Fort Harrison State Park has relatively few claims to fame. Other Indianapolis suburbs like Greenwood, Avon, Plainfield, Carmel, and Fishers all have a few celebrities to their names, most of them Indianapolis sports stars or members of Indianapolis media, but Lawrence seems to have been left out in the cold.
Part of this could be due to the fact that Lawrence is sometimes considered a part of Indianapolis. Many addresses that are physically located in Lawrence still retain an Indy address and zip code; Lawrence is simply a segment of the greater metropolitan area that is Indianapolis. Perhaps there are some celebrities that were born, raised, and living in Lawrence, but they have been credited to Indianapolis or claim they are from Indianapolis, much like residents of northwestern Indiana cities like Merrillville and Valparaiso (“The Region”) claim they’re from Chicago just to avoid confusion.
At any rate, famous people from Lawrence are few and far between; the sleepy bedroom community remains a haven for small town values, comfortable simplicity, and neighborly care. Lawrence attractions are on the simple side, untouched by the glitz and glamour of downtown Indianapolis or the spotlight of United States media. This is probably for the best; if there were a slew of famous Lawrence people, the small town might not retain its quaint charm.
