Lawrence Shopping: All Staples, No Frills

by Bryan Johnson

Lawrence, Indiana is a small suburb located on the east side of Indiana state capital Indianapolis, just south of Fort Harrison State Park. It serves more as a bedroom community than anything else; most of Lawrence is considered part of Indianapolis, and a majority of people that live there commute each day to work at an Indianapolis business. Since the town is so close to Indianapolis, there’s no need for any major retail areas, specialty shops, or bustling shopping area. As a result, Lawrence shopping isn’t that much out of the ordinary, but if you have a basic need, there’s probably a store in Lawrence that can fill it.

In downtown Lawrence, you’ll find a smattering of Lawrence businesses that are great places to pick up a few good gifts, souvenirs, or items of clothing. There are also a number of good retail chains and grocery stores for staples, but you certainly won’t find anything like the Metropolis Shopping Center in Plainfield or the Circle Centre Mall, an Indianapolis shopping mall. Most residents of Lawrence do their shopping at the local Wal-Mart, Costco, or Kohl’s; otherwise, Indianapolis is definitely the place to go.

One of the great things about living in Lawrence is its proximity to the Circle City. Residents of Lawrence are only a short drive from downtown Indianapolis, meaning the wide world of Indianapolis shopping is open to them. In the six Indianapolis cultural districts, you’ll find plenty of great places to spend a day of shopping, like Broad Ripple Village, Mass Ave, and Castleton Square. Indy is home to tons of great malls as well, including the Fashion Mall at Keystone, Clay Terrace Mall, and Glendale Mall.

Lawrence shopping doesn’t necessarily need a lot of unique stores and shopping venues; its residents can take advantage of all the great shopping opportunities there are in Indianapolis without taking too much time out of their day. Lawrence shopping has all the staples: grocery store, clothing outlet, an all purpose supermarket. For now, there’s not much else residents of this sleepy community need.
